I walk to the trees

11 days that will transform you life
A pilgrimage on dusty roads  through spectacular landscapes. The sun paints artistic shades on sandstone mountainsides. The wind carries a strange freshness in the air. The Maluti mountains boast their splendour. The African soil under your feet reminds of a journey deep within.

On Monday I was just getting back into the routine of training after a bit of muscle-resting.

Tuesday started of on a high note … I first walked 3km and then did some fast and furious dashes. (that means I walk 100m at a slow pace and then walk very fast for the next 100m.) As I did these bursts of speed. I enjoyed the rhythm of and the fast pace of that walking. And with that I prayed many many prayers for the people in my life. I prayed for many of you by name – Just saying Lord, for this 100m I want to pray for * …

Then after doing speed bursts, I did a fast walk for 3km. I want to speak about what I felt the Lord laid on my heart:

There are persons who will instantly know it is for them … you have been on some kind of a journey for quite some time now. And you do not have a clear indication of how long it is going to continue. You are getting weary and even a little bit downcast.  Please hear my heart in this – persevere my friend. I believe I have this message from the Lord for you … persevere because you will also finish what you need to do for the Kingdom. And take courage to just hang in there – I am praying for you.

Then the Lord spoke to me from His Word … saying a very simple thing: The Lord made trees that were pleasing to the eyes

And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground – trees that were pleasing to the eye… Genesis 2:9 (NIV)

Let me tell you – I cried when I walked past many trees (12km) and I had a sense of it being pleasing to my eyes – I saw the trees which I walked past, with new eyes. He actually made them to please me, looking at them. It is awesome to get that realisation.

Here is the (new) song that I started to sing one Wednesday – and it was still on my mind almost three days later:

Beautiful to behold

Beautiful to behold

are the works of Your hands

Beautiful to behold

are the words that You speak

Beautiful beautiful

are the trees of the field

You planned it and made it

and said that it was good,

that’s why we praise Your name

Beautiful to behold

are the works of Your hands

Beautiful to behold

are the words that You speak

Beautiful beautiful

are the trees of the field

You planned it and made it

and said that it was good,

that’s why we worship You Lord

Beautiful to behold

are the works of Your hands

Beautiful to behold

are the words that You speak

Beautiful beautiful

are the trees of the field

I am singing it over and over – and it is such a blessing to renew God’s goodness in our hearts.

Peace like a river – and like a tree beside it

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:3, ESV)

I hope I have you excited now to get praying a little bit more. Well … and also to walk just a little bit closer to our heavenly Father.

… and to take a new look at the trees …
