The church and the pub

Something in a small town made a lasting impression on me. In the busy main street I noticed a church and a pub right next to each other. The entrance to the church was right next to the pub.

In the large pub window was a display of prizes for the weekend’s lucky draw. On the very top was a bible – the first prize, sponsored by the church next door!

Finding God on the uphill

On my map were countless small dots with names. It became evident that those little dots on the map – small villages – were more important to God than what I would ever imagine or think.

One of those small villages was 10km from a turn-off along my route. Even though it was way out of my way, I felt God nudge me to turn off and go pray for that small village. When I eventually arrived there, I could see only three houses, of which one was empty!

I prayed over that place where I didn’t meet a single person. On the way back to my turn-off, I had an intense conversation with God. It was uphill most of the way. God spoke to me into the very core of my heart, He told me about His grace and that every little dot on the map, represents a big space in His heart … purely because of the people who lived there.

What made the detour worth gold to me was when I understood that I had to go that way because God sees everyone as valuable and precious …

Everyone – that includes me and you too!
